Shady Rest Restaurant in Bayville

Ribs were good. Sauce isn't the best but we'll worth it. My girlfriend really liked her eggplant parm as well. Best restaurant coffee I've had in a long time though!

This place is awesome! No wonder why they always have cars in the parking lot! Decorated like a vintage styled European restaurant. This place has the best lunch specials ever for $5-10 bucks you'll have a pick of several different high quality dishes like crab stuffed flounder or pork parmigiana sub . I had Manhattan clam chowder as an appetizer and it was very good. For entree I had the crab stuffed flounder which came with fries and a salad for $9.25 and it was slamming! Super fresh and tasty . My husband had the coconut shrimp for appetizer and it was super crispy and delicious. For entree he had the fish and chips for $6.25 and it was slamming . We will be back !

Back for the first time in ages (decades). Had to order the stuffed Eggplant Parmigiana and it didn't disappoint. Just as good as remembered. We'll be back to try more. Nice outdoor garden eating area if you don't want to takeout.

Food was VERY good and the waitress was super nice! The outside is also beautifully landscaped. The only reason you guys lose a star, You don't allow fries with burgers to be switched to anything but onion rings, when you allowed the sides to be switched to vegetables on every other meal. I would have happily paid extra. You also only have tobasco and buffalo sauce available for hot sauces, both of which are almost inedible.

Awesome food! So far I've just ordered the French onion soup and fried calamari. Both dishes were very good. The soup was well seasoned, full of flavor. And the calamari was crispy, lightly battered and fresh. Staff was very friendly.

I highly recommend the fried calamari served how it's supposed to be served.

We love their Trenton pie! We order for takeout at least once a month. The only thing I don't like is that they don't let you sit until your whole party is there, but I understand their reasoning.

The food is delicious! By the time we got our meals after drinks, krabby bread, garlic bread and salads we were only able to eat 1/2 our meals so takeout for us! Delicious food, great atmosphere, very down home, one of the best places around! I highly recommend for either lunch or dinner.

Had my birthday dinner here a few days ago and oh my God the food was delicious. We enjoyed the atmosphere and staff was wonderful. The owner made us feel so comfortable, you couldn’t help but want sit back have one of his favorite Margaritas and talk the night away. There was nothing we didn’t LOVE about this place can’t wait to go back. We’ll see you soon!!!

This is my favorite restaurant by far. It has a cozy hometown feel. I have never had a bad experience there. If you’re lucky enough to get there in nice weather, the outdoor patio is beautiful. Luscious plants & gardens. The food is wonderful. The lunch specials are great choices at great prices. My favorite is the grilled chicken breast with Swiss on a hard roll, with lettuce, tomato, pickle spear & cole slaw. It also comes with a mound of fries! And the eggplant parm is awesome too. Try it you’ll love it.

Stopped by today for a late lunch. It was such a beautiful day so we ate outside in the Rose Garden. The waitress was awesome as well as the food! I highly recommend anyone to go to the Shady Rest any time for a great meal or quick sandwich!

Ordered tonight 6/25 takeout, food was terrible. Only 5 minutes away, pizza was cold and all dried out. Awful, awful, awful.

We have been coming here for over 10 years. My sister first took me here before I had my home. We have never been disappointed ever. The menu is GREAT and the staff is just as good. You will not be disappointed.

I had a great experience here! We were seated in less than 15 min but they were able to get us drinks while we waited. The outside oasis is beautiful. Once we were seated, the waitress would often check on us if we needed anything and that was much appreciated. I’ll definitely be back in the future!

Was there the second day of outside dining. Everyone was following the rules which put me at ease. They offered to make my Granddaughter something that wasn't even on the menu that day. The server and chef made a little girl very happy. Thank you

The food was ok. Small place with friendly staff who know all the regulars. Nice place to visit. It was our first time there. We may go back next time we in the area.

Went for a late lunch today for a small post-graduation meal with my son today. This was my first dining experience since our lockdown restrictions eased as well as my first time at Shady Rest period. And boy was I not disappointed! The outdoor section was clean, dining area was well-spaced so as to adhere to current social distancing practices, and above all THE FOOD WAS GREAT!! I HIGHLY recommend trying this restaurant asap!

Tried Shady Rest from a recommendation. Delicious! I’ve only ordered their lobster bisque & steaks, but WOW! Steaks are on the level of Morton’s without the $$$. Recommendations would be Steak Alexis (which they don’t have all the time), however, their 14oz Montreal is amazing as well! The wait can be long, but everything seems to be from scratch = worth the wait. Staff is friendly & knowledgeable. Food has been spot on every time. If you have the time, I highly recommend this place. It’s a unique atmosphere, with exceptionally clean fish tanks! I bet it surprises you! I’m hooked & will return!

The owner and staff are so nice! Fish and chips, seafood fra diavolo, pizza... everything was good. If you are into raw clams and oysters, this is the place to go! The bartender also makes some really good drinks 😉

Great food and service

Atmosphere was great. It took 20 minutes after we put our order fir them to come back and say 1 order was not available and shouldn't be on menu so we reordered. Ribs were burnt. Got out bread 5 minutes after our salad was received which was iceberg lettuce 3 cherry tomatoes and 3 pieces of red onion. Understand its covid so we will try it again but we were not impressed with the meal. I guess the atmosphere makes up for it. We'll see next time. Waiter was great.

Food is always top notch, customers are very friendly and service has always been excellent! Definately recommend going for lunch , dinner or just a good time!!!

I have always loved eating here, especially when it is nice enough to sit outside in the rose garden. They added more outdoor seating because of the COVID19 mandates and have maintained great food and service

Service is slow, be prepared to wait. Don't go if you're starving, you would die of hunger waiting.

Loved the atmosphere, staff was friendly, and the first time I came last week, it was very busy I couldn't wait, as I was leaving the staffed stopped me and realized someone was paying and we went back, which you won't find to often that a restaurant will do that. This is my new favorite place!! And FYI to everyone....Order the French onion soup! A-mazing!

Worst service. Totally disregarded me waiting to be seen by a hostess and went out of their way to seat others.

Had a reservation for outside dining. Went to the outside patio and they would not seat me unless I had a mask on. Masks are not required if you have a medical condition, but nobody understands that.
